Add the edit button to your store

Where customers find the Edit order button, and how to add the reminder block to the Thank you page.

Customers can start an edit from two places:

Place What customers see Setup
Order page in the customer account Edit order in the order's actions Appears automatically once the app is installed and a plan is active.
Thank you page after checkout A reminder with an Edit order button Add the Order Editing Thank You block once.

Before you start

  • Your store uses customer accounts, not legacy accounts. Check this in Settings > Customer accounts in your Shopify admin.
  • At least one rule allows edits. See Rules.
  • Your plan is active. See Billing.

Add the block to the Thank you page

  1. In Advanced Order Editing, go to Home. In the setup guide, find Add the edit button to your store and click Open editor. You can also go to Settings > Checkout in your Shopify admin and click Customize.
  2. In the page selector at the top of the editor, choose Thank you.
  3. Click Add block and select Order Editing Thank You under Apps.
  4. Place it near the top of the page so customers see it right away.
  5. Click Save.

Return to Home and click Mark as done on the step.

Test it

  1. Place a test order on your store.
  2. On the Thank you page, check that the reminder shows.
  3. Log in to the customer account with the email you used and open the order.
  4. Click Edit order, change the address or a size, and save.
  5. In Advanced Order Editing, open Edits. Your edit is listed there.

The Edit order button does not show

  • Order editing is off. Go to Settings and turn on Let customers edit orders.
  • No rule allows the edit. Check that a rule is on and that its conditions and edit window match the order.
  • The plan is not active. Customers cannot edit orders until a plan is active.
  • The customer is not logged in. On the order status page, customers who are not logged in are asked to log in first.
