Test a cart and read the checkout log
Check which scenarios match before you go live, then see what checkout received for every real rate request.
Rulify gives you two ways to see why a rate did or did not show: Test a cart before you go live, and the Checkout log for real checkouts.
Test a cart
Test a cart runs a sample checkout through your scenarios. Nothing is charged, no order is created and nothing is saved.
- In Rulify, go to Shipping rates and click Test a cart.
- Under Cart, click Add products to add real products, or Custom item to enter a price, weight, SKU, vendor and tags by hand.
- Under Shipping address, fill in the address as a customer would.
- Under Customer and time, optionally enter customer tags, the currency, and a date and time in your store's time zone. Leave the date empty to use the current time.
- Click Run test.
The result lists the rates checkout would show, with prices and estimated arrival dates. Each scenario is marked Matched or Did not match, with the condition that failed. If nothing matches, the result says so and tells you whether the safety fallback would apply.
A scenario editor also has its own Test a cart panel for checking a single scenario while you edit it.
Checkout log
The checkout log records every request Shopify sends to Rulify for rates. It is available on Pro and Grow and keeps 365 days of history.
Go to Checkout log in Rulify. Each row shows:
| Column | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Time | When checkout asked for rates. |
| Origin and Destination | Where the order ships from and to. |
| Matched | The scenario that produced the rate. |
| Rates | How many rates were returned. |
| Outcome | Scenario rate, Fallback rate, No rate or Failed. |
| Response | How long Rulify took to answer. |
Filter by Scenario, Fallback or No rate, or search by postcode or country. Turn on Auto-refresh while you test at checkout. Click Export to download the list.
Click Show details on a row to see the cart, the rates returned to checkout, and the Scenario trace: each scenario marked Matched or Skipped, with the Decision that explains why.
Read the outcome
- Scenario rate. A scenario matched and its rate was shown.
- Fallback rate. No scenario matched, and the safety fallback was shown.
- No rate. Nothing was returned. The detail explains why, for example "No safety fallback rate has been configured" or "The destination is outside the fallback's zones".
- Failed. Rulify could not answer. Shopify's backup rates covered the checkout.
No requests in the log
If the log is empty after a test checkout, Shopify did not call Rulify. Check that the carrier service is connected and added to the zone or market of the address you used. See Set up the carrier service.
